Two Types of Outsourcing – Hourly and Project By John Phanchalad

hourly

When considering outsourcing a number of factors must be considered early on.  One of the most significant decisions to be made soon after you decide to outsource is whether the job will be an hourly job or a fix rate project.  There are pros and cons to both options.  After careful consideration you will be able to reach the best decision for your specific situation.

Hourly outsourced services or projects are typically a bit easier to manage.  I say this because with an hourly job, if you come to the realization that the fit between you and the outsource associate is not quite right, or they, can move on.  In contrast, if you enter in to a fixed rate project, typically the outsource associate will require at least a portion of the agreed upon fee up front.  If you determine that the fit between you and them is off, you may have no manner in which to recoup the upfront fee.  Additionally, the associate may simply vanish and never produce the final deliverable.

One of the ‘perks’ of a fixed rate project is that you can set a time frame for the completion of the project after setting milestones and not be concerned with the day to day movement of the project.  You can focus on the quality of the deliverables as opposed to a day to day budget of hours/resources.

Another plus of fixed rate projects is that you are able to say to your outsourcing associate, “This is the result I want for X amount and I need it completed by x-x-xx date.”  This also allows the project to be completed during the associate’s work hours/time zone.

In reaching your final decision, it is necessary to consider all of the factors of your task or project.  Look at how much direct oversight is necessary (if a lot is required an hourly offer may be most appropriate).  Determine if you are looking for a service to be delivered (customer service, calendar management, etc.) then an hourly may be great for you.  If you are looking to have a web site designed, a fixed rate may be more appropriate.

Breaking The Door Down By John Phanchalad

door-down

Often I talk with business owners who complain that they are having trouble getting past gate keepers to make contact with the owner and therefore make the sale.  It’s not a small problem it’s one I see many sales people have, often though the problem is easily solved.

instead of constantly calling and hitting the gate keeper and being turned away sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands and actually ‘kick the door down’.  This is something we have been trying lately with some success.

I won’t reveal exactly what we have been doing as I would hate to see it replicated or ‘swiped’ before we have had a chance to use it to our full advantage but I do want to share this.

If you are getting a no it’s not always because its a no, in some cases it’s because you don’t have the credibility to make the sale and as such you just have to prove how advanced or creative you are.  You need to set yourself apart from the rest.

What Are Good Metrics?

email-stats

Today I was talking to a client about the metrics of a recent email blast that they sent out, it was to a list they’d not talked to in over 3 months and they were grilling me on whether the metrics were solid.

The open rate was pretty good at 23%, only 3% of the people unsubscribed so on the surface level everything looked like the metrics were good.  But ultimately the answer to whether these are good metrics is still not able to be answered.

Let me explain.

Sending out an email getting a 23% open rate, a 19% click through rate, a 3% unsubscribe rate and a 5% bounce rate all sound like great metrics.  But the key metric that’s missing here is what is the sales rate?

If all these metrics are good, but no sales are made then I’d say the metrics themselves as a whole are not good.  The purpose of sending out the email was to make sales and if you make no sales then the metrics just can’t be classified as good.

Now the optimistic marketer would say, but the metrics show the database responded so we just need to tweak the offer and make it an offer that suits the database.  Sure that’s certainly an answer, but possibly another answer is that the database just doesn’t want to buy the services in this vertical?

How Do We Find Out?

A survey.  The only way to find out if this database is going to be any good for this customer now and into the future is to work out, who they are, what they want, how much they are willing to spend to get what they want and if they’re willing to spend it with my client.

If we can find out the answers to those questions then I think we’ll ultimately find out the answer as to what are good metrics for this particular database.

If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved its full potential, that word would be ‘meetings.

Who’s Definition Of The Sale Are You Delivering? By John Phanchalad

price-saleSelling web design, marketing automation and internet marketing services is a tough gig.  Sure there’s heaps of leads, and great margins if you get it right, but often your dealing with an uneducated buyer.  This is the worse kind of buyer.

Let me explain.

If you are in the business of selling pens.  A person buying a pen knows exactly what a pen does when they buy it, so the expectation created in the sale process is clearly defined and you as the sales person are unable to over promise or change that expectation dramatically.

As an example, you wouldn’t be able to tell the customer buying the pen that the pen would transform into a mini computer and they’d be able to go online and check their email.  The customer just wouldn’t believe you, it wouldn’t be true and they’d leave the store.

When it comes to selling web design and marketing automation services though in most cases the customers don’t understand what they are buying, and exactly what you are delivering.

Sure as a sales person you can provide a campaign map, a project scope a website wireframe, you can do all you can to explain the scope of your project, but fundamentally if they don’t understand the concept no level of explaining will help.

So what happens is the customer starts to create a picture in their mind, throughout the sales process of what they believe you are delivering in this sale.  The picture they create is the most important picture in this process because it’s the picture you need to deliver.

Now you could object with me here and say but you have a contract and a clearly defined scope, but if you truly want to make your customer happy then you need to deliver on the picture they painted.

So here’s a tip for you.  When you are closing a sale in this space, make sure that you ask the client to explain back to you what they are buying.  Ask them to tell you, in their words what they believe they are getting for the fee you are charging.

By doing this you can ensure you are both clear on the definition of the sale and the picture of the sale is the same picture for both of you!

The distinctive areas of web design are interface design, web graphic design, authoring that involves the propriety software and standardize code, SEO or Search Engine Optimization and user experience design.
  • Web Development is a wide word in the work that usually include in enhancing a web site in the internet or intranet. Internet is the World Wide Web and the intranet are a private network. This can also be in a series of enhancing the simplest static of a single page that has a plain text in a dense web based internet applications, social network services, and electronic business.

John Phanchalad: Key of Web Design

John Phanchalad has worked as a web designer for about 10 years where he learned a lot in creating an effective web design. He also discovered the different styles and processes involved in creating this design. There are web designers who use a method of drawing that comes from an inspirational site while others are getting inspiration from images or abstracts.

To have the assurance that a web designer can achieve the anticipated result of a specific client, these clients must give a specific designer a design frame of reference to have an efficient and perfect result. John Phanchalad stated that the finest method in communicating a frame of reference in a web designer is through the presence and use of mock up. Mock up is the main visual illustration on how you should design and like your site that will be illustrated by your visitors. There are elements that are typically involved in muck up:

  • Content Blocks

Your designer must be conscious on the content blocks that usually require on site, and if how many blocks is needed as well as location.

  • Call to Action

Whether you have the principal age group of points, you must have a call to action, contribution boxes, and the other items must be involved in your mock up for the designer in corporation.

  • Navigation

The navigation item in a specific page must be involved so that you can visualize the work of designer as well as the number of pages that the site will have and the way visitors will navigate the site.

Working On Tomorrow’s To Do List Today By John Phanchalad

to-do-list

Recently I’ve found myself getting to the end of my day and realizing that I’ve ticked off all of the To Do items on my to do list.  Not only that I’ve followed up all the emails that I’ve tagged for follow up and I’ve got an empty inbox.

It’s a good feeling.  It means that clients are getting timely responses, staff are getting timely input and I’m completing my work in a timely manner.  When this happens though it’s generally towards the end of the day.  There’s just a few hours left before I call it a day and head off.  I’ve got a decision to make, do I start on a new task from tomorrow’s to do list, or do I just finish and relax.

It’s a hard decision, especially when you have a family.  I could finish early spend some time with my kids and my wife or I could even go to the gym and work out for an hour or so.

What I’ve found myself doing lately is starting on my next day’s to do list.  I’ve been trying to see how many items on the next day’s to do list I can complete so that I can get a kick start on the day.

Now this has been amazing because what I’ve found is that by the end of the week I can add an extra day to the week.  As an example, last week, I completed my Friday to do list in it’s entirety in Thursday.

So when Friday came I had no assigned work items to do, so I could spend the time in anyway I wanted.  I could spend it with my family, spend it working on the business rather than in it, spend it with friends, spend it catching up with clients.

In fact this very post you are reading write now, was written yesterday.  It was on today’s to do list, but I wrote it yesterday so that today I’d have time to go for a longer run.

Freaky right?

Exercise For Productivity

competIf you follow across the different platforms that I write on you’ll find that one of my favorite topics to write on is productivity.  I find it fascinating how some people can get 100 high value tasks done in an 8 hour day while others struggle to do a single high value task.

In my study I don’t believe it has anything to do with intelligence, I also don’t think it has anything to do with desire.

I’ve met and worked with a lot of people who ‘desire’ to be successful, who are extremely talented and intelligent but who struggle to put it all together and produce on a daily basis what they need to produce to succeed.

You could say that some people are deluded into thinking that success comes easy, or that they can achieve great levels of financial success without hard work.  In my experience though that’s just the surface problem.

Today I’m not going to explore what I really believe it is that stops people from turning their desire for success into success, instead I am going to look at giving you a little tip on how you can work on your productivity.

Often during a working day you’ll ride through emotional ups and emotional downs, these ups and downs will effect your productivity.  The key is to work out a way to keep as neutral in these “waves of emotion” as possible.

One of those ways that I’ve found hugely effective is exercise.  If you can break out from the working environment and go for a run, go to the gym, go for a ride, go for a swim go and do something which exerts yourself.

I’m not talking about a leisurely walk around the block.  I’m talking about a walk where you are really pushing yourself, breaking a sweat and you come back and you KNOW that you’ve exercised.

In my experience, this kind of exercise, this kind of break, is great for productivity as it helps to keep your emotions even, your life even and your body fit.

A healthy body is a healthy mind and a healthy mind is a productive one!
